1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Cream together sugar and shortening, add eggs and milk. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Chill dough. Roll out and bake at 350 degrees until lightly brown. Ice.

ICING:

2 egg whites
2 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. corn syrup

Beat egg whites until stiff, fold in syrup and powdered sugar. Color, if desired and spread on cooled cookies.
