OLD TIME ICE BOX COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. nuts

Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together and add to mixture. Add chopped nuts and mix well. Shape into rolls and stand in cool place overnight. Bake 375 degrees. Slice about 1/4 inch thick. Makes 6 to 7 dozen cookies.
