MARTHA WASHINGTON CANDY | |
2 (1 lb. ea.) boxes confectioners' sugar 1 lb. chopped pecans (finely chopped) 1/2 (14 oz.) bag coconut flakes (I use Baker's) 1 cup finely chopped cherries 2 tsp. vanilla (I use Mexican vanilla) 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted 1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk 1 (12 oz.) pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 (4 oz.) pkg paraffin wax (I use Gulf; in Walmart baking section) With hands mix confectioners' sugar, pecans, coconut flakes, vanilla, butter, cherries and enough sweetened condensed milk to hold mixture together. Roll into balls the size of marbles, melt paraffin and chocolate over very low heat or use a double boiler, do not cook it but keep it hot enough to keep it melted. Dip balls into mixture and place on waxed paper to cool. Makes several pounds of candy. Note: Adding the cherries makes it a more traditional George Washington chopping down the cherry tree and it adds flavor and color to the candy. Submitted by: Verna Breazeale |
