BAKED APPLE DUMPLINGS 
Combine and bring to a boil:

1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
6-10 drops red food coloring

Add, stir and set aside.

3 tbsp. butter

CRUST:

Sift together:

2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder

Cut in:

2/3 c. shortening, Crisco or Spry

Add and set aside.

1/2 c. milk

Peel and core 6 apples.

Divide crust in 6 equal parts. Roll out. Place apples in center. Sprinkle with cinnamon and dot with butter. Bring crust up around apple and crimp together. Place in ungreased baking dish (11 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches). Pour sauce over and sprinkle lightly with sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes or until done.
