1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 c. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. mace
2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. chopped walnuts
3 c. chopped apples, fresh

Cream 1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar, add 3 eggs, one at a time. Mix and sift 3 cups flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon mace. Add gradually. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla, 2 cups chopped walnuts and 3 cups chopped apples.

Batter will be stiff. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Cool 10 minutes.
