CRUMB-TOPPED APPLE PIE 
Fill a pastry lined pie with 5 cups chopped apples mixed with 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon or nutmeg.

Combine 1 cup flour and 1/2 cup brown sugar and cut in 1/4 cup shortening (I use butter). Sprinkle this mixture over apple filling and bake 30 to 40 minutes or until apples are tender. 400 degrees.
