CRUMB BAR COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. butter (softened)
1/2 c. nuts

Mix until crumbly. Save out 2/3 cup of mixture.

In separate bowl, mix: 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. vanilla

Add to dry ingredients, mixing slightly. Batter will be lumpy. Pour in 8x12 pan for cake or 10x15 pan for bars. Top with reserved 2/3 cup crumb mix. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

Variation: Omit nuts, substitute 1 teaspoon each: nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon with dry ingredients.
