"HAMBURGER" SOUP | |
1 lb. ground beef 1 lg. onion, chopped 2 stalks celery, chopped finely (use leaves also) 1 qt. tomatoes, cut up 2 c. or more water 1 tbsp. chili powder 2 beef bouillon cubes 4 c. potatoes, diced & peeled 2 or 3 carrots, sliced thinly 2 c. peas, butterbeans, or green beans 1 or 2 c. finely shredded cabbage (opt.) Brown meat in large pan. Drain off fat. Add onion and celery and saute until vegetables are slightly tender. Add all other ingredients with enough additional water to just cover. Cook until potatoes and carrots are done. Add other vegetables and cook 15 or 20 minutes more. During last cooking add sprinkle of salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper if desired. I also add 1/2 teaspoon sugar. |
