MOM'S APPLE GRUNT
BOTTOM:

4-6 apples, peeled and sliced
1/4 - 1/2 c. sugar (depends on apples)
4 tbsp. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

CAKE:

1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
2/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. oil
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla

SAUCE:

1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 c. water

Cook bottom ingredients in saucepan until apples start to soften. Place in bottom of an 8 x 8 x 2 inch pan. Combine cake ingredients and mix to moisten and form a thick batter. Spread batter over apples and bake about 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Prepare sauce by slowly heating and whisking sauce ingredients to a boil. Sauce will thicken slightly. Spoon a serving of warm apple cake into bowl and top with warm sauce. Great in the fall and winter, my childhood favorite! Serves about 6.
