DATE NUT TORTE 
2 c. chopped dates (10 oz.)
1 c. chopped pecans
2 eggs
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. butter
1 c. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda

Add baking soda to dates and pour boiling water over dates and soda, let it stand until cool. Mix other ingredients for cake. Bake in greased cake pans (9 x 13 inch) at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. When cool, slice bananas over top, cover with whip cream. Sprinkle slivered almonds on top and arrange maraschino cherries on top of cake at 2 inch intervals.
