1 c. meal
1 tbsp. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 egg
1/2 to 3/4 c. milk
Salad oil (for frying)

In bowl combine meal, flour, baking powder, salt and pepper. Add onion and egg. Mix and beat well. Add milk, a little at a time, until batter is smooth. In saucepan, heat two inches of oil. Drop batter from side of spoon into hot oil, and fry until golden brown. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towel. Makes 10 hush puppies.
