HUSH PUPPIES 
1 1/2 c. white cornmeal
4 tsp. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Salt to taste
1 tbsp. sugar
1/4 c. grated onion
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 c. boiling water
Vegetable oil to cover while frying

Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, onion and egg. Blend well. Add the water rapidly while stirring. The water must be boiling when adding. Heat oil to 370 degrees. Drop mixture by rounded spoonful into hot oil. Cook until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Makes about 36 Hush Puppies.
