FAYE'S HOT FUDGE ICE CREAM CAKE 
Chocolate cake mix
1 c. granulated sugar
1/3 c. cocoa
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk or water
1 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Vanilla ice cream
Whipped cream
Maraschino cherries (optional)

Bake cake as directed. The following syrup can be made ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator. It heats up nicely in the microwave.

SYRUP: Blend sugar, cocoa, cornstarch and salt in heavy saucepan. Add milk or water and butter. Cook until thick. Remove from heat and add vanilla.

TO SERVE: Split cake and put a square of ice cream between layers. Top with hot fudge syrup, dollop of cream and cherry.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
