FRENCH APPLE SLICES | |
2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 c. shortening 2 egg yolks, unbeaten 1 tsp. lemon juice 7-8 tbsp. water 12 tart med. pie apples, sliced 1/2 tsp. salt 2 1/2 c. sugar 2 tbsp. flour 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. raisins Cut shortening into dry ingredients. Mix unbeaten egg yolks and lemon juice with water; add to first mixture, cutting into soft dough. Toss on lightly floured board; divide into 2 portions. Roll one part to 1/3" thickness and line 7"x12" pan. Mix sliced apples with remaining ingredients; place in lined pan and cover with balance of dough rolled out and perforated. Seal edges and bake 1 hour in a 350 degree oven. Cool and drizzle with icing. ICING: 1 c. powdered sugar 1 tbsp. milk 1/2 tsp. vanilla |
