QUICK CUCUMBER PICKLES 
4 qts. sm. cucumbers, 2" long
1/2 c. salt
4 qts. water

Wash and rinse cucumbers. Make brine of water and salt. Pour over pickles and let stand 10 to 12 hours. Rinse in two changes of fresh water. Make a syrup of the following ingredients: 3 c. sugar 4 c. vinegar 4 tsp. whole mixed spices

Put mixed spices in a cheese cloth bag. Combine water, vinegar, sugar and spices. Heat until sugar is dissolved. Add cucumbers and cook at a slow boil for 10 minutes. Remove spice bag. Pack in sterilized jars. Cover with hot syrup and seal at once.
