OLD TIME CRUMB CAKE 
2 1/4 c. cake flour or 2 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
2 tbsp. molasses
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda

Sift flour, sugar, spices and salt together. Cut in butter as for pie crust until fine crumbs. Save 1/2 cup for topping. To remainder add beaten eggs, molasses and sour milk to which soda has been added. Mix thoroughly and pour into well greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Sprinkle crumbs on top and bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
