OLD TIME LEMON POUND CAKE | |
1 1/2 c. shortening 2 1/2 c. sugar 4 eggs 1 c. buttermilk 3 1/2 c. cake flour 1 tsp. lemon flavoring 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. hot water Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, one at a time and beat into mixture. Add buttermilk and flour alternately and add flour, lemon flavoring, soda, salt, and hot water last. Bake at 350 degrees (don't grease pan). When cake is done, take out of oven. Leave in pan and pour over mixture of the following: 1/2 cup hot water, 1/2 cup sugar, juice, and grated rind of one big lemon. Leave in pan until cool. |
