MOM'S FUDGE 
3 c. sugar
1 c. evaporated milk
3 (1 oz.) sqs. unsweetened chocolate
3 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. light corn syrup
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tsp. vanilla
1 (6 oz.) jar red maraschino cherries, well drained and cut

Combine sugar, milk, chocolate, corn syrup and salt in 3 quart heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture boils - cook to soft ball (234 degrees) without stirring, remove from heat, add butter and cool to lukewarm (110 degrees) without stirring. Stir in vanilla, turn mixture into buttered 8 inch baking pan. Cut into 1 1/4 inch squares when cooled. Garnish with cherries. Makes 36 pieces.
