CARAMEL LAYER CHOCOLATE SQUARES
1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramel squares
2/3 c. evaporated milk
3/4 c. melted butter
1 c. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped pecans
1 box German chocolate cake mix (Pillsbury)

Combine caramels and 1/3 cup milk. Melt in microwave or in top of double boiler; set aside. Grease 9"x13" pan with corn oil spray.

Combine by hand cake mix, butter, 1/3 cup milk and nuts. Press 1/2 dough into pan. Bake 6 minutes in 350 degree oven. Sprinkle chips over crust. Spread caramel mixture over chips. Crumble remaining dough on top. Bake 15 to 18 minutes. Cool slightly then refrigerate 30 minutes to set. Makes 20 squares.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

 Scott (Michigan) says:
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1 tbsp. water
1/2 cup butter

With these changes, it comes out much better. Trust me.
