CARAMEL LAYER CHOCOLATE SQUARES 
Caramel:

50 caramels
1/3 cup evaporated milk

Melt caramels in evaporated milk and set aside.

Layers:

3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter, melted
1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chocolate chips

Grease and flour a 13x9-inch pan. Combine butter, cake mix, evaporated milk and pecans. Press half of this into the cake pan and bake at 350°F for 12 minutes.

Remove from oven. Sprinkle chocolate chips over this and then spread the prepared caramel over the chips. Cover with remaining cake mix batter.

Note: You may have to take little bits between your fingers and drop them onto the caramel; a little slow but well worth it.

Return to oven and bake at 350°F for 18 minutes. Cool before cutting.
