MOLASSES SUGAR COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. Brer Rabbit molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Melt shortening in a 3 or 4 quart saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat; allow to cool. Then add sugar, molasses and egg; beat well. Sift together flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt; add these to first mixture. Mix well and chill thoroughly. Form in 1 inch balls; roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheets 2 inches apart. Bake in moderately hot oven, 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.
