GERMAN SPICE CAKES 
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. honey
2 eggs
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. allspice
1 c. chopped almonds
3/4 c. chopped candied orange peel

ICING:

1 c. confectioners' sugar
2 egg whites
1 tsp. lemon juice

Heat oven to 400 degrees (moderate hot). Mix sugar, honey and eggs thoroughly. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients; stir into sugar mixture. Mix in almonds and orange peel. Roll 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured board; cut in fancy shapes.

Place on lightly greased baking sheet, leaving 1/2 inch between cookies. Bake 10-12 minutes. While still hot, brush cookies with icing. Store cookies in covered container for 1 week to mellow. Makes about 4 dozen cakes.

Egg White Icing: Blend confectioners' sugar, egg whites and lemon juice. Beat with electric or rotary beater for 5 minutes.
