I have been making these for years. They were a favorite of my sons when they were young and still favorites. To save time, I poured them into a pan and cut into squares. I would make these and take to my son in college--all of his friends loved them. One friend would always ask for these when she knew I was going to visit. He's now graduated so I gave the friend the recipe.

I LOVE these cookies and have made them forever :) But when I was in school (in the 70s-80s) our cafeteria made something simliar in bar-form... they had the same taste and were everyone's favorite. Any ideas of how this recipe would fare if you just poured it into a pan and cut it into bars?

This is my favorite cookie ever. I have been making them since I was little. I have been using Old Fashioned Oats by Quaker forever. I don't like them mushy like they can get with the quick oats. For the chocolate, I cook it until it makes a ball at the bottom of a cup of cold water. I have found that timing varies based on weather too. You can make in rainy weather, but you have to cook the chocolate a little longer.

These cookies bring back a flood of childhood memories! I've always made them with peanut butter and have never heard of adding the other items like coconut, Chinese noodles! Makes me wish I had milk in the house right now so I can experiment! I think m cherries sound good in it...has anyone ever tried that?

My family has been making these cookies for decades. We call it oatmeal candy. An easier way of distributing the batter is to spread it in a 9x13 pan and freeze, then just cut into squares. Thats how we always do it. Also, these taste delicious when eaten frozen!

These are my husband's absolute favorite cookie, he started making them when he was a teenager (we are 56) and we have been making them ever since. The recipe we have calls for you to boil the mixture for three minutes, turns out every time. I used to make them for all our daughter's bake sales, they are always a big seller. I bought a similar item at Kroger a few weeks ago, thinking I would give my husband a treat, and myself a break, but they are not nearly as good as the homemade. Think I will make some tomorrow. Thanks!

These were very easy and delicious! You might have to make a double batch though - they disappear quickly!

I too m familiar with goodies, I split the rec.just enough for one... I use splenda Blend a little less than half cup and use carnation milk a little less than fourth a cup....

i have made these several times and if you use 1/4 cup of milk instead of 1/2 cup in it, it works so much better
