BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 1/2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. almond flavoring
2 tsp. vanilla flavoring
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter and 2 cups of sugar well. Reserve 1/2 cup of sugar for the egg whites. Add 1 egg yolk at a time, and beat well after each. Sift and measure flour; add salt and baking powder; add soda to the buttermilk and dissolve. Begin with flour mixture and add alternately with buttermilk, ending with flour. Add flavoring. Beat egg whites and 1/2 cup sugar until stiff, soft peaks are formed. Fold into cake mixture. Bake in tube pan at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.
