WALNUT POVITEZA (Croatian) | |
7 c. flour 3/4 c. sugar 1 pt. milk 1/2 c. butter 1 1/2 tsp. salt 4 eggs, beaten 2 pkgs. dry yeast 1/4 c. warm water Dissolve yeast in warm water (set aside). Scald milk, sugar and butter. Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast and part of flour. Beat. Add eggs, salt and remaining flour. Make a soft dough and knead until smooth. Place in a warm oiled bowl and cover. Let rise until double. FILLING: 2 1/2 lbs. ground walnuts 2 c. sugar 3 eggs 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. honey 1 pt. milk 1 tbsp. lemon juice 1 pt. whip cream (optional) Heat milk, sugar and honey. Add walnuts and eggs. Heat thoroughly. Cover table with a large cloth - flour lightly. Place dough in center. Let rest for 10 minutes before stretching. Stretch to 1/8 inch thickness. Spread with filling and whipped cream. Roll as a jelly roll. Place in large well greased pan. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 1 hour. Remove from pan and cool. |
