BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
1 1/2 gallons sliced cucumbers
4 med. sliced onions
2 green peppers, sliced in long thin strips
1 red (sweet) pepper, sliced in thin strips
1/2 c. canning salt (not table salt)
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
2 tbsp. white mustard seed
2 c. water
3 c. yellow cider vinegar

Combine cucumbers, onions, peppers with canning salt. Cover for 3 hours. Drain thoroughly. Put into syrup of sugar, turmeric, ground cloves, white mustard seed, water and vinegar. Place in large enamel or stainless steel pan. Bring to a boil, don't boil (scald). Pour into hot sterile jars and seal.
