GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 c. dark brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk
1 cake of German sweet chocolate, dissolved in 1/2 c. boiling water
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
Pinch of salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour, salt and soda together 3 times. Cream shortening, vanilla, sugar and one egg, beat, then add other egg and beat alternately with flour mixture and buttermilk. Bake 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until cake springs back. Can be either layers or loaf pan.
