YEAST DOUGHNUTS 
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. milk (scalded)

Pour over sugar and shortening. Stir until dissolved. Cool.

2 packages yeast - either compressed or dry. Dissolve in 1/2 cup lukewarm water then add to above. 1 tsp. salt 1 lg. or 2 sm. eggs, beaten

Add these to above mixture. 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour, add to above and knead dough until smooth. Put in greased bowl and let rise 1 hour. Punch down and let rise again. Divide dough and roll out on floured board or pastry cloth about 1/2 inch thick. Cut with large doughnut cutter. Place on clean cloth and let rise 1 hour.

Glaze: 1 pound powdered sugar and add milk to make a creamy mixture. 1 teaspoon vanilla.
