APPLE-WALNUT COBBLER 
1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 cups chopped walnuts, evenly divided
4 cups tart apples, pared and thinly sliced
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1/3 cup melted butter (about 3 tbsp.)
whipped cream (for topping)

Stir together 1/2 cup sugar , cinnamon and 1/2 of chopped walnuts. Set aside.

Grease an 8-inch pie pan. Place apples on bottom of pan; sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture.

Stir together flour, remaining 1 cup sugar, baking powder and salt. Beat egg with evaporated milk and melted butter. Add this all at once to dry ingredients. Mix well until smooth.

Pour over apples. Top with remaining chopped walnuts. Bake at 325°F for 50 minutes. Cut into wedges to serve and top with whipped cream.

Serves 4 to 6.
