BAKED FRENCH TOAST | |
12 slices of day old French bread, 1 1/2 in. thick 4 eggs 4 c. milk 1/3 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon Place bread slices in greased glass baking dish. Beat together eggs, milk, 1/3 cup sugar, lemon peel, vanilla and salt. Pour over bread. Let stand 5 minutes. Turn bread. Cover and chill for 5 hours or overnight. combine 1 tablespoon sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over bread. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. Serves 6. NOTE: Instead of lemon peel and vanilla 1 to 1/2 teaspoons maple flavoring may be added. |
