PEPPERNUTS 
1 1/4 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs, beaten
3 tsp. water
3 tsp. vinegar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
3 tsp. anise oil
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. black pepper
3 1/4 c. flour
1 c. pecans

Cream sugar and shortening. Add water and vinegar. Combine spices with flour; sift into creamed mixture. Add anise and nuts last. Mix well. Chill dough at least 1 hour. Roll out on floured board; cut into small pieces. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.
