OLD-FASHIONED APPLE PAN
1 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
5 c. pared cooking apples, sliced
1 c. water
2 tsp. vinegar
2 tsp. lemon juice
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg

Mix the sugar, flour and salt in a saucepan, then add water, vinegar and lemon juice. Stir until smooth. Bring rapidly to a boil and cook 2 to 3 minutes stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from the heat.

Add the following and blend in butter, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set sauce aside. Spread apple slices evenly in greased pan and pour sauce over apples.

Bake at 375°F in 9 x 13-inch pan for 40 minutes or until apples are tender.

Shortcut: Use canned apples and heat in microwave with sauce in greased dish.

Baked is better because apples absorb sauce. Serve warm on vanilla ice cream. Delicious!

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
