GRANDMA ROEGGE'S BUTTERSCOTCH
ICE BOX COOKIES
 
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening, softened
2 eggs
Pinch of salt
1 c. chopped nuts, if desired
3 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg

Mix all ingredients together and mold into oblong rolls; wrap in wax paper. Place in refrigerator overnight or several hours. Slice thin and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake in 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes.
