HOT DOG STEW 
1 lb. hot dogs, sliced
Sm. onion, chopped
1 tbsp. oil
4-6 lg. potatoes, chopped
2 green peppers, sliced
1-2 lg. cans tomatoes
Salt and pepper to taste

In a large pot, saute chopped onion and sliced hot dogs in oil, about 5 minutes. Add canned tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers, salt, and pepper to taste. Bring to boiling point; reduce heat to medium and simmer until potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork, about 30-45 minutes.

I make a very similar recipe. Only difference I was taught to use a can of tomato soup and 1 empty soup can of water... instead of tomatoes.. at the time it was considered to be an inexpensive meal plus it was a round during WW2 time when meat was not easily available.
