DUTCH APPLE PIE 
1 1/2 c. light brown sugar (1 c. + 1/2 c. reserved)
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 c. water
1 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. peeled, sliced apples
Unbaked pie crust

Mix 1 cup brown sugar, (reserve 1 cup for topping) flour, salt, cinnamon, water and lemon juice in saucepan. Cook, stirring until fairly thick. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla. Cool slightly. pour over apples in a pastry lined pan. Crumble the remaining pastry with 1/2 cup brown sugar. Sprinkle over top of pie.

Bake in 450 degree oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400 degrees and continue baking about 30+ minutes longer. Serve warm or cold.
