APPLE PIE | |
Crust: 1 10 inch pie crust--2 needed 1 1/2 c. flour 1/2 c. shortening 4 tbsp water Measure flour and shortening into bowl. Cut shortening into flour. When mixed well add water one tablespoon at a time until flour is moistened and dough cleans of side of bowl. Form into ball on a floured pastry cloth and flatten. Roll out dough to fit into a pan. Fold into quarters and unfold in pan. Sprinkle inside of dough with cinnamon. Filling: 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon salt 8 c. thinly sliced apples 1/4 c. butter Scald milk. Beat eggs with sugar, salt and vanilla. Add warm milk to egg mixture slowly stirring while adding. Make sure crust has no cracks or holes or filling will run under. Pour filling to unbaked crust and sprinkle with nutmeg. Bake in hot oven for 10 minutes (400°F) then turn down oven to 350°F and take till inserted knife in middle comes out clean. |
