COCONUT CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
3 c. plain flour
4 eggs
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter and sugar and beat. Add eggs 1 at a time. Beat well after each. Add flour and buttermilk to which soda has been added. Add vanilla. Mix well, pour into greased and floured pan. Bake at 375 degrees until golden brown.

COCONUT CAKE FILLING:

3 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. milk
2 (8 oz.) pkgs. frozen coconut
1 stick butter

Add sugar and milk, cook for a while. Add coconut and cook until oyster white and somewhat thickened. Add butter, cool a few minutes, but not completely. Spread between layers on side and top. Punch holes in cake so filling can soak in.
