CHOCOLATE BREAD PUDDING | |
2 oz. chocolate 3 c. milk 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. brown sugar 2 eggs, separated 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla 6 slices dry bread, cut up 4 tbsp. sugar Heat chocolate and milk in boiler; add salt. Combine brown sugar and egg yolks. Add chocolate mixture; stir vigorously; add vanilla. Add bread to chocolate mixture and let stand 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Turn into baking (buttered) dish and place in a pan of hot water. Bake until almost firm (350 degrees for 30 minutes). Beat whites until foamy. Add 1/2 sugar. Beat until blended. Add rest of sugar; beat into peaks. Pile meringue lightly around border. Sprinkle with shaved chocolate. Bake 8 minutes. |
