DATE AND NUT BREAD 
1 c. (8 oz. pkg.) of diced dates
3/4 c. raisins
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water
2 tbsp. soft butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 1/3 c. flour
3/4 c. chopped nuts

Place diced dates and raisins in covered bowl; add soda and boiling water. Cover and let stand. Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla; add egg and beat well. Add flour mix until moistened. Pour in fruit mixture including liquid and nuts and mix gently to prevent crushing the fruit.

Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 45 minutes, or until bread tests done. Use cake tester.
