1 pkg. yeast 1 c. warm water 2 tbsp. shortening 3 c. flour 2 tbsp. sugar 1 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. fennel seed Mix yeast and water. Cut shortening into flour, salt, sugar mix. Add yeast and water mix and let sit covered 20 minutes. Add fennel seed. Pinch plum size balls and roll out 10 to 12 inches long. Place on greased cookie sheet and brush with egg white and 1 tablespoon water. Sprinkle with coarse ground salt. Let rise 30 to 50 minutes. Bake in 425 degree oven on high rack 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 20 to 24. |
