RED DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. cocoa
1 c. boiling water

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs, 1 at a time. Beat well after each addition, add vanilla to milk. Alternate milk with flour, which has been sifted with salt, soda and cocoa. The alternating begins with flour and ends with flour (milk in 3 times and flour in 4 times). Add boiling water all at once and stir. Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes.
