RED DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs, separated
1/2 c. cocoa
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. cold water

Cream shortening and 1 cup sugar. Add vanilla and egg yolks. Add dry ingredients and cold water and beat well. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add 3/4 cup sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Fold into batter. Bake in greased and lightly floured pans for 35 to 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
