Cream 1/2 cup shortening and 3/4 cup packed brown sugar until fluffy; blend in 2 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add 1/2 cup molasses; beat well. Stir together 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir into creamed mixture.
Stir in 1 1/2 cups raisins and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts. Spread in greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
Cool slightly; sift powdered sugar over top. Cool thoroughly; cut into bars. Makes 32.
