1 c. boiling water
1 c. dates, cut up
2 eggs
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 sm. pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. nuts, chopped

Add boiling water to dates and let cool. Beat eggs and sugar; add shortening. Add rest of ingredients one at a time and beat well. Pour into 9 x 13 inch greased/floured pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
