GRANDMA'S CHRISTMAS COOKIES | |
2 c. sugar 2 eggs 1 c. Crisco shortening 1 c. milk 1 tbsp. vanilla 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda Pinch salt 2 tsp. nutmeg 5 c. flour Cream together the first 3 ingredients. Whip together the second 3 ingredients. Sift together the last 3 ingredients. Now gradually blend together the results of the first 3 and second three. Finally, slowly adding the sifted ingredients of the last 3 ingredients, beat into a dough. Chill dough for 2 hours. Roll out 1/8 inch thick. Use cookie cutters for cut-outs. Bake at 325 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Glaze and decorate as you wish...a good glaze uses powdered sugar mixed with milk and vanilla to a thick consistency. Careful! It doesn't take much milk and vanilla. Cookies will keep in a closed container about 2 weeks or until the cookie monsters find them. |
