JAM CAKE 
3/4 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs, separated
1 c. jam
1 c. raisins
1 c. unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 c. self-rising flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. dates

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks, jam, raisins, applesauce, soda and butter. Mix together flour, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and cloves and add to butter mixture. Add nuts and dates. Beat egg whites until stiff.

Fold into mixture. Pour into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish or pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes (or until done). Spread with icing.
