APPLE DUMPLINGS 
2 c. water
1 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. butter
2 c. plain flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
6 sm. apples, pared, and cored, left whole

Mix first 5 ingredients for syrup. Cook 5 minutes. Remove from heat; add butter. Sift dry ingredients; cut in shortening, add milk; stir.

Roll onto floured surface. Cut into 6 x 6 squares. Place an apple on each square. Dot with butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.

Wrap apples in pastry. Place in baking dish. Pour syrup over apples. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream.
