ORANGE SURPRISE 
2 oranges
1 recipe orange sauce (recipe follows)
Plain cake batter
1 pt. vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Peel orange, separate into segments, cover bottom of greased layer cake pan with orange segments and Orange Sauce. Cover with plain cake batter or small package of yellow cake mix. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) about 35 minutes. Cut into individual servings and top with ice cream or whipped cream. Cake may be used hot or cold. Serves 4 to 6. 2 tablespoons brandy may be added to sauce. Any upside down cake may be served in same manner. Good for jaded appetites.

ORANGE SAUCE:

3/4 c. sugar
1 c. orange juice
2 tbsp. grated orange rind

Boil sugar, orange juice and rind together until syrupy, about 3 minutes. Makes about 1 1/4 cups. This sauce is good served hot over left-over plain or pound cake.
