2 c. household lime
2 gal. water
8 lbs. cucumbers
2 qts. vinegar
9 c. sugar
2 tbsp. salt
2 tbsp. pickling spices

Slice cucumbers crosswise. Put them in mixture of lime and water in an enameled or pottery container, let stand overnight. Remove from lime water, wash through three changes of fresh cold water.
