SWEET DARK RYE BREAD 
2 pkgs. yeast
1/2 c. lukewarm water
1 tsp. sugar
2 1/2 c. hot water
2 1/2 tbsp. lard
2/3 c. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
1/4 c. molasses
2 c. rye flour
1 1/2 tsp. anise seed, or flavoring
5 c. white flour

In a small bowl, put yeast and sugar in lukewarm water. Mix thoroughly, hot water, lard, sugar, salt and molasses. When boiling water mixture is lukewarm, add the yeast mixture, rye flour and anise seed or flavoring. Beat and add white flour. Knead. Let rise until doubled. Punch down and let rise again. Then make into 3 loaves. Let rise (approximately 45 minutes) and bake for 40 to 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
